SOWELA currently offers OSHA-Authorized hazard awareness training for workers and supervisors. This training provides workers or supervisors training on the recognition, avoidance, abatement, and prevention of safety and health hazards in workplaces. The program also provides information regarding workers’ rights, employer responsibilities, and how to file a complaint. Outreach training is a voluntary program, provided by an OSHA-authorized Outreach Trainer.
Why should you be interested in hazard awareness training?
The 10-hour class is intended to provide workers with awareness of common job-related safety and health hazards, while the 30-hour class is more appropriate for supervisors or workers with some safety responsibility. To obtain an OSHA completion card, an individual must attend and successfully complete the entire class, including all requisite topics and the minimum number of contact hours.
SOWELA students who receive OSHA training are more knowledgeable about workplace hazards and their rights and contribute to our nation’s productivity.
DISCLAIMER: The training courses, provided through the Outreach Training program, do not meet the training requirements for any OSHA standards. An OSHA card is not considered a certification or license and is not required by OSHA. However, some *states have enacted laws mandating the training. Some employers, unions, organizations or other jurisdictions may also require this training.
*Louisiana OSHA Training Information
In Louisiana, there is no state agency in charge of OSHA training and compliance. Federal OSHA is in charge of regulating OSHA training. Some companies require their employees to take OSHA training in order to be qualified to perform certain duties. OSHA training is accepted statewide by Louisiana and, if you relocate to another state, the card will be honored there.
The cost of attending 10-hour Construction or 10-hour General Industry training may be waived for students enrolled at SOWELA; however students are responsible for paying a processing fee for the completion card.
