The Office of Economic and Workforce Development provides customized non-credit professional development training for students wanting to quickly find jobs with local businesses or use their skills for jobs available any where in the world.
Investment in life-long learning provides the local workforce with the necessary skill sets to foster economic development.
Workforce Development works closely with industry to determine what job opportunities are available and builds programs to train students specifically for those jobs. With the expansion in the construction industry of welding, machine and tool, and pipe fitting, SOWELA has programs available to quickly train and provide the skills necessary for very good paying jobs. A limited number of scholarships are available through a partnership with Capital One Bank. Be sure to apply today and ask about scholarship opportunities.
The reason for Workforce Developmentís success is largely attributed to the development of partnerships with area companies. Weíve partnered with Northrop Grumman to provide an Aircraft Structural Apprentice program where 100 percent of the first class were granted interviews and most had jobs offered. Other programs will be offered as industry partnerships identify their needs.
Similar partnerships are being pursued in other construction areas. Courses are customized, short-term training programs which meet business and industries training needs. These non-credit professional development or lifestyle training programs are offered onsite and are held at either our main campus in Lake Charles or at the Morgan Smith site in Jennings.
Through workforce training, SOWELA plays a critical role in both the state and regionís economic development efforts. Workforce Development provides a life-long learning partnership between education and industry. It is Workforce Development's goal to ensure this regionís long term vision for economic vitality.
