Summer and Fall 2024 Registration Now Open at SOWELA

Financial Aid and Academic Advising Appointments Are Available for Prospective Students

Lake Charles, Louisiana – Monday, April 8

Summer and Fall 2024 registration is now open for all interested individuals who want to enroll at SOWELA for any of its academic programs at all four of the community college’s locations in Southwest Louisiana.

SOWELA is currently offering online, hybrid and in-person options dependent on course availability and requirements. Its main campus is in Lake Charles with sites in Jennings, Oakdale and Leesville. Students are encouraged to register early for the best scheduling options, as classes tend to fill quickly.

Summer courses begin on Tuesday, May 28, and Fall courses start on Monday, August 12. Students can apply through our Apply page.

Individuals interested in learning more about SOWELA and its program options can attend this Saturday’s Flying Tiger Open House beginning at 11:00 AM. Attendees will hear from college administrators, meet with an academic advisor, visit with financial aid and scholarship specialists, tour campus and more. The first 100 prospective students receive a free SOWELA t-shirt. The open house will occur at the Sycamore Student Center, 3824 Senator J. Bennett Johnston Ave., Lake Charles, LA 70615.

SOWELA offers over 30 technical and academic programs, including Chemical Laboratory Technology, Machine Tool Technology, Culinary Arts, Drafting and Design Technology, Surgical Technology, Accounting Technology and Forest Technology.

SOWELA recently celebrated 85 years of educating Southwest Louisiana and was named the #1 community college in Louisiana for five years running from 2018 to 2023.
