Anne Duhon studied Special Education and English Education (secondary level) at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She began tutoring classmates as a Math Club member while in high school and learned then the joys of helping others discover what they can do! She can assist students who need help with any aspect of written English. In particular, she likes helping students organize and revise essays for English 1010 and 1020. Anne can address any grammar questions/errors students might have in written work for other courses and loves to work with students taking transitional courses – math, reading, and writing.

Kobi Fuselier was born in Mamou, LA, then his family relocated and he grew up in southwest Louisiana. In May 2017, Kobi graduated from Kinder High School. Kobi chose to attend SOWELA to earn an associate’s degree in Culinary Arts. He plans to use his degree to become a private chef. He has chosen to tutor Biology because of a love of science as well as a fascination with the functions of the human body. A goal as a tutor is for Kobi to assist students in becoming more confident while studying Biology and, hopefully, they will soon share his appreciation of biology’s role in our daily lives.

Annamarie Lawson (Anna for short) was born in Reno, Nevada, but was reared in Lake Charles, LA. Currently, Anna is in her 4th semester at SOWELA. She is studying to earn her Associate of General Studies degree. Anna plans to continue her education at McNeese State University. Because of her passion for writing, she is excited to tutor English and Speech. Her goal is to successfully help and encourage students when those essays and nerve-wracking speeches are due, as well as to encourage them to find their own passion for learning.

Jared Menard was born and raised in Lake Charles, LA. Jared graduated from SOWELA with an associate’s degree in Accounting and is currently employed in the field – enjoying every bit of it! He has over five years of experience tutoring math and other subjects to students of all ages and backgrounds. Jared has numerous success stories, has gained lots of positive feedback about his ability to make math seem much simpler, and his ability to understand different learning styles. Menard has also tutored introductory accounting classes. He is also willing to tutor the following courses: Introductory Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, and College Algebra.

Emme Quintanilla was born and raised in Texas.  She is a former student at the University of Texas at Austin and currently a student at SOWELA.  She tutors in math and English.  As a student, she knows not only does each professor have a different teaching style, each person learns differently.  Her goal is to encourage students that even though they may not understand it right away, she will help them to get there.  Emme can assist students with Algebra, English assignments – from helping to develop a plan to assisting with grammar, and is willing to help with transitional courses.

Christopher Sims graduated from McNeese State University in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. Chris is currently attending SOWELA for the Process Technology Program. For fun, he likes to play golf or video games with his friends. He can assist you with transitional math, algebra, chemistry, and process physics.

Morgan Smith Site

Mechelle Manuel is a SOWELA tutor at the Morgan Smith instructional site in Jennings, LA. Currently, she is seeking an associate’s degree in Applied Science at SOWELA. Mechelle enjoys helping other students. She understands that everyone has a different learning style. Mechelle can tutor in the following areas: Pre-Algebra – 0092 and 0093, Transitional English – 0091 and 0093, English 1010, and all business courses.

Oakdale Site

Roy Carroll was raised in Merryville, LA. He enjoys studying all kinds of different subjects. However, Roy is very enthusiastic about chemistry and physics and, he even performs research in the field. He began tutoring children at his high school and revels in the educational process. Roy plans to earn a degree in biochemistry and then go on to medical school so that he may continue to help people throughout his life. As a tutor, Roy brings with him an energy of positivity and enjoyment that is sure to not only make learning easy, but fun, too!
