My name is Maegan Lewis and I am the Academic Advisor for the School of Nursing and Allied Health. I’m from Lake Charles, LA, by way of Austin, TX. I obtained my bachelor’s degree from Stephen F. Austin State University and Master’s degree from Louisiana State University. Working with students at SOWELA is a great experience. I have the pleasure everyday helping students from all backgrounds whether this is their first year attending college, they’re a transfer student, or they’re the first person in their family to attend college.

My name is Evan Staves and I am the Academic Advisor for the School of Industrial Technology. I’m from Lake Charles, LA. I received my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from McNeese State University. I have 6 years of experience in higher education. I’ve worked in areas such as the Registrar’s Office, Veteran’s Affairs, and Testing. Why I like working with students at SOWELA: As an academic advisor, you get to meet all kinds of people. No two students are alike. Everyone you come in contact with has their own story, aspirations, and goals. My job allows me to listen first, and then come up with the best solution to get them to their ultimate destination.

My Name is Venus DeJean and I am an Academic Advisor and Retention Coordinator. I’m from Lake Charles, LA. I received my Bachelor’s degree from McNeese State University. I’ve worked in higher education for the past 5 years helping students as an Enrollment Specialist and Financial Aid Counselor. Working with students at SOWELA, I have the privilege to witness who students are at the start of their journey and how they come to develop into their future selves. My name is Matthew Ferguson and I am an Academic Advisor. I received a Bachelor’s degree from University of Louisiana at Monroe, and spent years working in higher education at McNeese State University. My career at SOWELA began as a Student Services Generalist where I tutored in Math, English, Chemistry, and more. Then, I transitioned to an Enrollment Specialist and Advisor at the Morgan Smith Site in Jennings, LA. I enjoy working with students at SOWELA because I love seeing students take on new challenges and achieve their goals.

My name is Rachelle Daigle, and I am an Academic Advisor for the School of Nursing and Allied Health. I am new to Louisiana and loving it. I grew up nearby in Orange, TX, but spent the last decade in the Houston area. I obtained my Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work at Lamar University and a Master’s of Social Work from the University of Southern California. In addition to a varying background in social work, I worked for Texas A&M University Galveston Campus 5+ years prior to SOWELA. I love our SOWELA team and helping students navigate their new role, empowering them to secure their pathway forward (wherever that leads!), and providing tools for success in their life’s journey and purpose.

I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Communications/Journalism from Southeastern Louisiana University. My previous experience in higher education includes Orientation, Admissions, and Career Services. What I enjoy most about my job is the variety and that every day I am doing a small part in helping students achieve their goals.

My name is Megan Fabian and I am a New Orleans native that moved to Lake Charles in 2017. I obtained my Bachelor’s in Communication Studies at Louisiana State University and my Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. I started my journey at SOWELA as an Enrollment Specialist. As an Academic Advisor, I love helping students become more confident of themselves, identify their academic goals, and learn the steps needed to obtain those goals.
