SOWELA’s Future Business Leaders of America Bring Home 15 Medals from State Competition

Louisiana Phi Beta Lambda Competition Gives Students the Opportunity to Test Business-Related Skills Among Peers


Students in the newly established Phi Beta Lambda organization at SOWELA Technical Community College recently competed in the Louisiana Phi Beta Lambda competition, bringing home 15 medals in a variety of categories. Top winners in their respective categories are eligible to compete for honors at the National Leadership Conference to be held in San Antonio, TX, this summer.

Winners include: Jessica Reeves, 1st place – Cost Accounting and 2nd place – Business Communication and Accounting Principles; Haley Oden, 1st place – Social Media Challenge and 3rd place – Management Concepts; Josh Kiser, 1st place – Accounting for Professionals and 3rd place Accounting Principles and Administrative Technology; Cory Green, 2nd place – Personal Finance and Financial Concepts; Meaghan Quebedeaux, 1st place – Administrative Technology, Desktop Publishing and Computer Applications; Disha Patel, 2nd place – Cost Accounting and 3rd place – Entrepreneurship Concepts.

In addition, SOWELA student Sabrina Reeves was named the Louisiana State Secretary/Treasurer for Louisiana Phi Beta Lambda, and the SOWELA Chapter was named Largest Local Chapter Membership in the Professional Division.

SOWELA offers a variety of business- and technology-related programs, including Business Administration (online and on-campus), Information Systems Technology, Accounting Technology and Office Systems Technology. All of which prepare students to be critical thinkers and technologists in the business world.
