Spring 2023 registration is now open for all interested individuals who want to enroll at SOWELA for any of its dozens of academic programs at all four of the community college’s locations in Southwest Louisiana. SOWELA is currently offering online, hybrid and in-person options dependent on course availability and requirements. SOWELA’s main campus is in Lake Charles with sites in Jennings, Oakdale and the recently acquired Lamar Salter Campus in Leesville.

Spring semester courses begin Tuesday, January 17. Students can apply here.

“SOWELA is a smart investment for those seeking education or training in the Southwest Louisiana community. Students attend at an average cost of $2,132 per semester. They can graduate quickly in the high demand programs that we offer and begin working in a high wage field,” said Allison Dering, SOWELA Executive Director of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. “SOWELA is also a great option for students who aspire to earn a higher degree. Due to our regional accreditation, many SOWELA credits will transfer seamlessly into a four-year program at a university. Our transferable courses are a great value for those seeking to one day earn a bachelor’s degree.”

Currently, scholarships of $500 are available for new students on a first come, first served basis in the following programs: Accounting, Aviation Maintenance Technology, Chemical Laboratory Technology, Digital Arts and Communication, Information Systems Technology, Outdoor Power Equipment Technology, Surgical Technology, Vehicle Maintenance Technology and Welding (at SOWELA Oakdale and Jennings locations). Additional scholarships and financial aid are also available for those that qualify.

SOWELA offers more than 30 technical and academic programs including Practical Nursing, Machine Tool Technology, Culinary Arts, Drafting and Design Technology, Surgical Technology, Accounting Technology and Forest Technology.

SOWELA was recently named #1 community college in Louisiana by Niche. The highly renowned online platform also ranked SOWELA in the top 12% of community colleges nationwide.
