SOWELA to Host Culinary Arts Open House and Cook-off and College Discovery Day in July

Recent High School Graduates and Their Families or Career Changers Can Learn About Financial Aid and Scholarship Opportunities, Network with Faculty and Explore Program Areas

SOWELA Technical Community College will host two events for prospective students in July, a Culinary Arts Open House and Cook-off, as well as “Discover SOWELA.” All events are free and open to the public. Both will take place at SOWELA’s Main Campus in Lake Charles, LA.

“Discover SOWELA” is Wednesday, July 12, from 10:00-11:30 AM. Attendees should meet at SOWELA’s Sycamore Student Center, 3824 Senator J. Bennett Johnston Ave., Lake Charles, LA 70615. The event will include a walking tour of the campus, giving interested individuals the opportunity to explore all program areas, meet faculty and learn about the job market. The Culinary Arts Open House and Cook-off is Thursday, July 13, from 5:30-7:00 PM at SOWELA’s Culinary, Gaming and Hospitality Center, 3841 Senator J. Bennett Johnston Ave., Lake Charles, LA, 70615. Individuals interested in becoming a chef can learn about the Culinary Arts program and meet SOWELA Chefs as they face off in a cooking competition. To register, visit our Culinary Arts page.

SOWELA offers financial aid and scholarship opportunities, including the “MJ Foster Promise Program.” This financial aid award is given on a first-come, first-served basis. Qualifying students are eligible for a maximum of $3,200 per award year, which covers most tuition and fees, with a maximum lifetime benefit of $6,400. Students must be 21 years or older to qualify.
