New General Education and Culinary Arts Classes Begin March 12, 2019
LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – February 8, 2019
SOWELA Technical Community College continues to enroll students in the current Spring 2019 semester as part of its Second Start initiative. Second Start classes begin halfway through the semester, giving prospective students the opportunity to reach their career and academic goals and graduate on time. The compressed, 8-week format is similar to a summer term.
The College offers a new set of classes about every two-three months to help accommodate nontraditional students who are juggling additional responsibilities outside their academic career, such as fulltime work or family.
Classes beginning in March are offered online or at the Main Campus in Lake Charles. They include general education courses, such as Biology, Chemistry, English Composition, American History, College Algebra and more. Program-specific courses in Second Start include Culinary Arts, Business Administration and Criminal Justice.
SOWELA Technical Community College provides traditional, distance, and lifelong learning experiences and awards associate degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates. The College empowers learners in career and technical education and enables transfer students to pursue a four-year degree so all learners excel as globally competitive citizens. The College has been educating the region’s workforce for 80 years and has locations in Jennings, Lake Charles and Oakdale, LA.
