SOWELA Students Win 20 Medals at Louisiana SkillsUSA Competition


SkillsUSA Empowers Students to Showcase Their Talent While Sharpening Their Craft

LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – April 22, 2019

SOWELA Technical Community College students attended the statewide SkillsUSA competition April 3-5. The competition was also hosted by the College. SkillsUSA provides students with an opportunity to highlight their expertise in a variety of occupations for a chance to win gold, silver or bronze medals in different categories. SOWELA students won a total of 20 medals.

Category winners include Austin Rains, gold, in Advertising Design; Skye Moses, gold, and Jillian Wild, silver, in Commercial Baking; Sierra Neugent, Justine Zerangue and Jeffery Floyd, gold, Nicole Manuel, Alexis Pappion and Justin Trahan, silver, and Lisa Haymon, Paula Savant and Artis Lute, bronze, in Crime Scene Investigation; Kobi Fuselier, silver, and Matthew Whitney, bronze, in Culinary Arts; Shandala Hargrave, silver, in Customer Service; Cory Green, gold, in Electrical Construction Wiring; Autumn Gaspard, gold, Extemporaneous Speech; Brittany Ducote, gold, job interview; Taylor Crochet, gold, Medical Terminology; David Sonnier, silver, photography; Vivian Barrilleaux, silver, State Pin Design; Chance DeCuir, silver, and Austin Rains, bronze, in State T-shirt Design; Vivian Barrilleaux and Chance Decuir, bronze, Television/Video Production; John Miller, gold, and Alex Sheppard, silver, in Welding.

Gold medalists will move to the SkillsUSA national competition held in June to compete with state winners from around the country.
