Industry Representatives Share Their Path to Career Success on September 17, Empowering Future Women in Aviation Maintenance, Process Technology, Truck Driving, Welding, and Vehicle Maintenance

SOWELA Technical Community College will host a Women in Nontraditional Careers Seminar on Tuesday, September 17, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the Sycamore Student Center at its Main Campus in Lake Charles, La. Attendees will hear from women actively working in Aviation Maintenance, Process Technology, Truck Driving, Vehicle Maintenance, and Welding. The event is free and open to the public.
“At any time in your life, you can learn something new,” said SOWELA Aviation Maintenance alum Rachel Fast, one of the event’s guest speakers and an Aviation Avionics Technician at Citadel Completions. “This seminar is a great opportunity for women to explore career options they may have never considered before.”
Additional speakers include Denise Dowling, Benoit Nissan; Chasity Ware-Greve, Citgo; MaHogney Lewis, Loves Travel Stop; Patricia Stroderd, Recon Group; Allison Bellue, Phillips 66; Sherry Duhon, LOTTE; and Taylor Winfrey, Examinetics Mobile Occupational Medicine and Iles Medical Testing.

SOWELA’s student body is 54 percent female. Many of them are finding success in nontraditional career paths. A career path is considered nontraditional when one gender comprises less than 25% of individuals employed in that field or occupation.
