SOWELA Postpones December 18th Commencement Exercises

Graduates Invited to Participate in Spring Ceremony

LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – November 13, 2020

Due to damage incurred from hurricanes Laura and Delta, the December 18, 2020, Commencement has been postponed. Students who would have graduated during the Fall 2020 Commencement will be invited to participate in the Spring 2021 Commencement Ceremony.  Academic transcripts and diplomas will be available to students in early 2021.

“We feel strongly that our students need to be recognized in front of their families and peers for their educational achievements so we hope that our Spring commencement ceremony will allow this recognition to happen,” said SOWELA Chancellor Dr. Neil Aspinwall.

Students who complete their programs of study by the end of the Fall 2020 semester will still earn their credential(s) and graduate even though they may not participate in a formal graduation ceremony. Academic transcripts will be available and diplomas mailed to graduates.

The graduation ceremony is the culmination of all the hard work put forth by our students to pursue and successfully obtain a higher education that provides the means to improve lives. SOWELA’s faculty and staff strive to ensure student success, and we are incredibly proud of the individuals who will graduate. These students are working hard to juggle the day-to-day complexities of life after multiple disasters and a pandemic. They clearly exhibit the firm determination to succeed. Their commitment to their dreams is what we want to celebrate.
