SOWELA Offering Free HVAC Training in Partnership with Venture Global

A $5,575 Value, Classes Cover Residential and Commercial Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning

Lake Charles, Louisiana – Thursday, May 9, 2024

SOWELA Technical Community College, in partnership with Venture Global, is offering Calcasieu and Cameron Parish residents free HVAC training for the next cohort of its Will to Skill program. Day and evening classes are available and begin Monday, July 8, and Tuesday, July 9, respectively. The 20-week training program is usually $5,575, and training seats are limited.

Unique to SOWELA’s HVAC program is combining HVAC theory with hands-on training. After completing the course, students clock a total of 695 hours. SOWELA’s 20-week HVAC program includes residential and commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning training. Students learn the fundamentals of heating systems and combustion processes, operating concepts of the refrigeration cycle, power generation and distribution, troubleshooting various operating cycles, and more.

Successful completers earn 10 hours of OSHA-authorized training on critical workplace safety topics such as NCCER and HVAC certifications and prepare for the EPA Universal 608 license exam and Ready to Work NATE certification.

Day and evening classes occur at SOWELA’s Main Campus at 3820 Sen. J. Bennett Johnston Ave., Lake Charles, La 70616. Interested individuals should call (337) 421-6560 to see if they qualify and to sign up for the program.

For residents outside of Calcasieu or Cameron Parish, individuals can email workforce@sowela.edu  to learn about other scholarship and financial aid opportunities and future HVAC training courses.

SOWELA’s 2023 HVAC class earned a 100% pass rate on the EPA licensing exam, highlighting the program’s high caliber of instructor and hands-on training.
