LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – May 31, 2019

SOWELA’s Office of Workforce Solutions is offering Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Training tuition-free to eligible individuals. Spots are limited. Interested candidates can attend a free informational session to learn more about the program on Thursday, June 20th, at 11 a.m. or 6 p.m. in SOWELA’s Regional Training Center Auditorium, 3749 Senator J. Bennett Johnston Ave., Lake Charles, LA 70616.

Upon graduation, participants receive three certifications: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR and Phlebotomy or EKG. They will also have guaranteed interviews with the program sponsor.

To register for the informational session, call SOWELA’s Office of Workforce Solutions at (337) 421-6560 or visit www.sowela.edu/medical-assistant.

The program is made possible through a partnership between the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury’s Local Workforce Development Board, Area 51, Ochsner Health System, and SOWELA Technical Community College.

The custom training program is for Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA)-eligible participants in Calcasieu Parish. It will provide a tuition-free, occupational skills training in the health care industry specifically for Medical Assistants (MAs), which are in high demand in the Ochsner Health System.

To be eligible, candidates must be at least 18, not in school, have a high school or high school equivalency diploma, and they must be able to pass a drug screen and criminal background check. The American Job Center will determine candidates’ WIOA-eligibility.
