SOWELA Medical Assistant Class Earns 100% Pass Rate on Licensure Exam

Students Surpass National Pass Rate Average by More Than 40%

Lake Charles, Louisiana – Thursday, March 21

SOWELA’s Medical Assistant class recently earned a 100% pass rate on the Certified Medical Assistant exam. The 13 Medical Assistant students surpassed the national pass rate of 58% and are now certified to enter the in-demand healthcare workforce.

“Our Medical Assistant students are a very determined and compassionate group,” said Instructor Catherine Jordan. “I’m incredibly proud of their hard work and support of each other during the certification testing process because the exam is comprehensive and challenging.”

The CMA Certification Exam is a rigorous assessment of 200 multiple-choice questions administered in four 40-minute segments. It requires a thorough, broad and current understanding of healthcare delivery.

According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, employment of Medical Assistants is projected to grow 14 percent from 2022 to 2032, much faster than the average for all occupations.

SOWELA’s four-month Medical Assistant training program prepares students for employment in care facilities, home health agencies, and hospitals where basic bedside nursing care is needed. Students are introduced to health care, basic nursing skills, body structure and function. They can also earn Phlebotomy, EKG and Basic Life Support (CPR) certifications.
