Classes Cover Residential and Commercial Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning

SOWELA Technical Community College is registering for its in-demand, quick-to-career HVAC training. Day and evening classes are available and begin Monday, December 2, and Tuesday, December 3, respectively.
Unique to SOWELA’s HVAC program is combining HVAC theory with hands-on training. After completing the course, students clock a total of 695 hours. SOWELA’s HVAC program includes residential and commercial heating, ventilation and air conditioning training. Students learn the fundamentals of heating systems and combustion processes, operating concepts of the refrigeration cycle, power generation and distribution, troubleshooting various operating cycles, and more.
Successful completers earn 10 hours of OSHA-authorized training on critical workplace safety topics such as NCCER and HVAC certifications and prepare for the EPA Universal 608 license exam and Ready to Work NATE certification.

The 18-week training program is $5,575, and training seats are limited. Scholarships and financial aid are available for those who qualify.
SOWELA’s 2023 HVAC class earned a 100% pass rate on the EPA licensing exam, highlighting the program’s high caliber of instructor and hands-on training.
According to the Louisiana Workforce Commission, HVAC mechanics and installers are four-star jobs based on high demand, educational requirements and salary. An HVAC mechanic and installer make an average of $64,000/year.
As part of the curriculum, employers are invited to make class visits to share with students about available job opportunities, how to apply and learn about the industry. The emphasis on job placement is critical in ensuring our students get to work quickly after training.
