SOWELA Hosts Two Informational Sessions for Prospective Students

Attendees Learn About Available Scholarships and Financial Aid, Academic Programs and How to Apply

(Lake Charles, Louisiana – June 2, 2022)

SOWELA Technical Community College will host two informational sessions this summer on Tuesday, June 14, and July 12. Both sessions are at 10:00 AM in the Sycamore Student Center, 3824 Sen. J. Bennett Johnston Ave., Lake Charles, LA 70615.

Informational sessions are free and open to the public. To register, visit this page (opens new window). Session topics include how to apply for scholarships and financial aid, available academic programs at each SOWELA location, and how to enroll and register for Fall 2022 classes. Prospective students can enroll at any of SOWELA’s locations in Lake Charles, Jennings and Oakdale and, pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), the Lamar Salter Campus in Leesville, LA.

SOWELA offers more than 25 degree and certificate programs, including Sterile Processing Technology, Practical Nursing, Drafting & Design Technology, Office Systems Technology, Accounting Technology and Forest Technology.

This year SOWELA announced an anonymous $200,000 donation that will fund student scholarships in 2022. The “SOWELA Student Success Scholarship” will be awarded based on merit and need to students who have earned a minimum grade point average (GPA) of a 2.5 from SOWELA, if currently enrolled, or a 2.5 GPA from high school if enrolling at SOWELA for the first time.

For students looking to pursue a bachelor’s degree, SOWELA has nine transfer agreements with four-year colleges and universities throughout the state and online, allowing transfer students to significantly reduce the cost of their baccalaureate degrees by completing their first two years at SOWELA before transfer.

The admissions and the registration process is available here online for new students. Current students can register via LoLA. For questions or more information, call (337) 421-6550 or email onestop@sowela.edu.
