SOWELA Technical Community College is holding the spring commencement ceremony on Tuesday, May 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Lake Charles Civic Center Coliseum. Approximately 287 students are eligible to graduate and receive degrees or diplomas or participate as completers in the Economic and Workforce Development programs.
Graduation includes the United States Naval Sea Cadet Corps conducting a Presentation of Colors, Ms. Jennifer Ryan singing the National Anthem, and Dr. Henry Mancuso offering the invocation. Dr. Jim Henderson, President of the University of Louisiana System, will serve as the commencement speaker. Ms. Willie Mount will be in attendance representing the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) Board of Supervisors.
Two SOWELA alumni members will participate in this year’s ceremony: Mr. Val Harvey and Ms. Kortney Istre, both are 2017 graduates.
