SOWELA Hosts Spring Commencement


Approximately 297 Students will Receive Their Diplomas on Tuesday, May 24

(Lake Charles, Louisiana – May 18, 2022)

SOWELA Technical Community College will host its Spring commencement ceremony on Tuesday, May 24, at 6:30 PM in the Lake Charles Civic Center Coliseum. Approximately 297 students are eligible to graduate and receive degrees for Spring 2022.

Louisiana Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser will present the Commencement address. Lt. Governor Nungesser is Louisiana’s ambassador as Commissioner of the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. He left a successful business career to enter politics following Hurricane Katrina. Under his administration, Louisiana celebrated a record-breaking 53.2 million visitors, bringing in more than $18.9 billion to the state.

Graduation also includes the Washington-Marion High School JROTC conducting a Presentation of Colors and Ms. Latricia Thierry singing the National Anthem. The ceremony will also include the first Machine Tool Technology graduating class, which launched Fall 2020.
