Business Faculty Leaders from Five States to Visit SOWELA for Networking and Professional Development
(Lake Charles, Louisiana – November 7, 2023)
SOWELA Technical Community College will host the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Region 6 Southwestern Council’s annual conference November 13-14th. More than 40 business faculty leaders from Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas will descend on SOWELA’s Main Campus in Lake Charles, LA, for professional development and networking opportunities.
“We are thrilled to be the host site for this year’s ACBSP Southwestern Conference,” said SOWELA School of Business and Applied Technology Dean and Conference Chair Dr. Marie Coleman. “At SOWELA, we value learning opportunities like these to sharpen our curriculum and engage with like-minded professionals, all for the betterment of our business and accounting programs and, ultimately, our students.”
This year’s conference theme is “Be Extraordinary: Emerging Partnerships for Student Success.” Workshops will focus on practical education-industry opportunities with a vision of student success, connection to local workforce demands and continuous improvement.
Organizations face exceptional challenges in selecting the next group of business leaders, and higher education has a unique role in preserving the workforce’s competitiveness. Relationships that integrate students and employers help faculty understand the needs of the industry, including in-demand competencies while helping to grow the talent pipeline.
As an elite business school accreditor, ACBSP has accredited SOWELA’s Accounting Technology and Business Administration programs since 2022. This designation indicates SOWELA’s commitment to continuous improvement that ensures its business programs give students the skills employers want.
