Top-scoring Pieces Advance to Houston American Advertising Federation Awards
Lake Charles, Louisiana – December 4, 2025
The digital arts and communication program at SOWELA Technical Community College will host a free art show on Friday, December 5, from 6-8 p.m. at the College’s Main Campus. A total of 57 pieces from 20 students will be on display, featuring a diverse range of work, including logo designs, illustrations, brochures, print advertisements, photography, animation, video and more. Top-scoring pieces from these works will advance to the upcoming Houston American Advertising Federation Awards, where they will compete against student work from colleges across Texas and Louisiana.
“This show has always been a meaningful way to spotlight our students and their work,” said SOWELA Digital Arts and Communication Instructor Darrell Buck. “Any opportunity for them to be seen is valuable. It highlights their talent, their hard work and the strength of our program.”
To be selected for the SOWELA Art Show, students submitted their artwork to a panel of local industry professionals for consideration. All selected submissions will be on display until the 2026 art show. Animation and video pieces will be accessible through scannable QR codes.
The gallery is located on the second floor of the Arts and Humanities Building, 2000 Merganser St., Lake Charles, LA 70615.
The Associate of Applied Science degree in Digital Arts and Communication prepares students for employment and advancement in the digital media industry. Concentrations in graphic design and media production are available. Students learn how to utilize industry-standard software, including Adobe Creative Cloud. Fields include advertising, printing, videography, photography, website design and more.
