Classes Transition to Online Instructional Method
LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – March 13, 2020
SOWELA Technical Community College classes and events are cancelled Monday, March 16 – Friday, March 20, at all locations. Students will resume classes on Monday, March 23, through an on-line instructional method for courses that can be conducted in such format. Classes requiring hands-on instruction will resume in a face-to-face format ensuring that CDC recommendations for sanitation and social distancing are upheld. Students can visit Canvas for more information or contact their instructor directly with questions.
While some colleges have moved to a fully online format for their classes, this type of transition is not ideal for the hands-on education at SOWELA. Interrupting the education of our students is considered a last resort.
All SOWELA facilities will undergo extensive sanitation for disease prevention measures.
During the next week, faculty and staff will have the following schedule:
- Monday, March 16 – SOWELA offices closed with no faculty or staff on campus.
- Tuesday, March 17 – Essential personnel only on campus.
- Wednesday, March 18 – All faculty and staff return with professional development available to faculty transitioning face-to-face classes into the on-line format.
SOWELA’s top priority is the well-being of students, faculty, and staff. Administrators will continue to monitor the situation on a daily basis.
