Choose from CDL, Cooking, HVAC and Pipeline Technician Training with Scholarships and Financial Assistance Available for Those that Qualify

SOWELA Technical Community College’s Office of Workforce Solutions is now registering for multiple short-term training courses this winter. Scholarships and financial assistance are available for those that qualify, and registration is open on a first come, first-serve basis. Limited training seats are available.
Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Training: SOWELA offers a free online CDL permit course to those who want to take the training but do not have their permit. The Class A license training program is a comprehensive 245-hour classroom and behind-the-wheel program. Training covers Louisiana Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, pre-trip inspection, backing pad skills, and on-the-road skills. The seven-week class starts on Monday, January 30. The cost is $5,950. Scholarships and financial assistance are available for those who qualify.
Cooking Boot Camp: This five-week program starts Monday, January 23, and prepares students to enter the hospitality industry as entry-level cooks. Successful students earn two nationally recognized certifications, including the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute’s (AHLEI) Certified Kitchen Cook and the National Restaurant Association’s ServSafe Manager Certification. Students can apply up to 9 credit hours toward SOWELA’s Associate of Applied Science degree in Culinary Arts. The cost is $50.
HVAC Training: Beginning Monday, February 20, the 18-week HVAC program includes residential and commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning training. Successful completers earn 10 hours of OSHA-authorized training on critical workplace safety topics such as NCCER and HVAC certifications and are prepared to test for the EPA Universal 608 license and the Ready to Work NATE certification. At the completion of the course, students clock a total of 695 instructional hours. The cost is $5,575. Scholarships and financial assistance are available for those who qualify.
Pipeline Technician Training: The 10-week Pipeline Technician program begins Monday, January 24, and prepares students for employment in a variety of jobs in the pipeline industry. Curriculum covers flow measurement, corrosion and cathodic protection, and pipeline maintenance. Completers receive a Pipeline Technician Certificate of Completion. The cost is $2,500. Scholarships and financial assistance are available for those who qualify.
