SOWELA and McNeese Sign New Articulation Agreements for Four Programs

SOWELA Students May Transfer up to 60 Credits in Criminal Justice, English Literature, History or Mass Communications to McNeese

(Lake Charles, Louisiana – April 6, 2022)

SOWELA and McNeese have signed articulation agreements between their schools for four programs making it easier for students to transfer credits from SOWELA to McNeese. SOWELA students who complete 60 hours and graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Criminal Justice, an Associate of General Studies degree in English Literature, an Associate of General Studies degree in History and an Associate of General Studies degree in Mass Communications can transfer into McNeese in the corresponding Bachelor’s degree programs. The new agreement lasts five years with the option for renewal.

Students who transfer the maximum number of credit hours from SOWELA to McNeese will have 60 credit hours left to earn their Bachelor’s degree for a total of 120 credit hours. All students who make the transfer from SOWELA with the new agreement will transfer to McNeese as juniors.

“SOWELA takes great pride in developing and establishing collaborative relationships with business and industry in order to help produce a qualified and skilled workforce for SW Louisiana,” said SOWELA Chancellor Dr. Neil Aspinwall. “Although the majority of our students enter the workforce after completing a program of study, a growing number of our students (400-500 per year) transfer to a four-year college/university to continue their education. The majority of our transfer students choose McNeese as their institution of choice. We are very excited to establish this new articulation agreement which will allow students to move seamlessly from SOWELA to McNeese and earn their Bachelor’s degree.”

The agreement was announced and signed today during a special signing ceremony at SOWELA’s Regional Training Center. The articulation agreements between SOWELA and McNeese mark eight between the two Lake Charles institutions. Other agreements include Art, Business Administration, Psychology and a Reverse Transfer Agreement.

“McNeese and SOWELA share a common interest in providing access to quality higher education in southwest Louisiana,” McNeese President Dr. Daryl V. Burckel said during the signing ceremony held on the SOWELA campus. “This partnership with SOWELA streamlines the transfer process and creates a clear pathway for SOWELA students to earn four-year degrees from McNeese.”

“The McNeese mission is to change lives and many students that dream of earning a bachelor’s degree start their journey at SOWELA and we look forward to welcoming them to the McNeese campus,” Burckel said.

Students at both higher learning institutions receive hands-on experience and learn under credentialed faculty who meet the accreditation requirements of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
