Adult Education & Literacy

SOWELA partners with the Literacy Council to provide comprehensive adult education services in Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron and Jefferson Davis parishes. Services include adult basic education, high school equivalency diploma preparation, college transition, and career exploration.

Classes are available in Lake Charles at Central School and SOWELA’s main campus; in Sulphur at Hope House (old D. S. Perkins School); in Jennings at the Morgan Smith Site; in Grand Lake next to the Grand Lake Fire Station; and in Deridder at the old First Street School. Morning, afternoon, and evening classes are available. Online classes are also available (limited availability).

To register for the Adult Education & Literacy program, prospective students must complete registration, testing, and orientation. Students are assigned to classes based on proximity and availability.
