LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – April 18, 2018
SOWELA has received approval from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to offer the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Surgical Technology. This program will begin in May 2018 at the SOWELA–Morgan Smith Instructional Site in Jennings, LA. The College is currently accepting applications for the summer and fall semesters.
“As we continue to expand our allied division within the School of Nursing and Allied Health, we are delighted to add this much needed program to meet the healthcare demands of Southwest Louisiana,” said School of Nursing and Allied Health Dean Dr. Wendi Palermo.
The Surgical Technology program is designed to train practitioners as Surgical Technologists to meet the needs of local healthcare partners. Students who successfully complete the program are able to make clinical judgments based on current standards and practices within the profession. They perform medical calculations before and during surgical procedures and serve as a member of the surgical team.
