Business Faculty Leaders from Five States to Visit SOWELA for Networking and Professional Development

SOWELA Technical Community College in partnership with Venture Global LNG is offering a free Fiber Optics training class to Calcasieu and Cameron parish residents. The five-day class starts Monday, December 11, and meets from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Successful completers will earn three certifications and be certified to work as Fiber Optics Technicians. Spots are limited. Interested individuals can register at our Free Fiber Optic Training.
Training includes the following certifications: Certified Fiber Optic Technician Course (CFOT), Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing and Maintenance (CFOS/T) and Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Splicing (CFOS/S). Normally, this training totals $2,835.
Class will be held at SOWELA’s Main Campus in Lake Charles, LA. Training includes both theory and 85% hands-on activities to prepare students to take the certification exams sanctioned by the Fiber Optics Association.
According to Salary.com, the average salary for a Fiber Optics Technician in Louisiana is about $60,000 or more with experience. With multiple companies expanding their fiber footprint in Southwest Louisiana, individuals with Fiber Optics certifications are in-demand in the current job market.
