Higher Education Emergency Relief Funding (HEERF) Student Grants

  • SOWELA Technical Community College has signed and returned the CARES Act Certification and Agreement form to the U.S. Department of Education. Through this agreement, SOWELA has agreed to provide at least 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to our students.
  • Pursuant to SOWELA’s Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students, the college has received $1,246,692.
  • As of May 11, 2020, SOWELA distributed $1,246,692 in CARES Act Emergency Financial Aid Grants to eligible students.
  • 1729 students are eligible for funding under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and are thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act.
  • The total number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant for students under Section 18004 (a)(1) of the CARES Act is 1729.

  • SOWELA Technical Community College will use no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 314(a)(1) of the Coronovirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
  • The college has received $1,246,692 to award in Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 314(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA). 100% of this funding was disbursed to eligible students on 3/4/2021.
  • 1174 SOWELA students were deemed eligible were eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under Section 314(a)(1) of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act, 2021 (CRRSAA) and the Student Eligibility Requirements.
  • 1174 students each received $1061.92 in CRRSA Act Emergency Financial Aid Grants.

  • This is the final posting that covers all HEERF II fund expenditures for Student Portion funds.

  • SOWELA has signed and returned to the Department the Certification and Agreement and the institution will use the applicable amount of funds designated under the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) and (a)(4) programs to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
  • Under the ARP (a)(1) program, as authorized under section 2003 of the ARP, the amount each institution must use for financial aid grants to students is determined by calculating the sum of 50 percent of the amount each institution receives under the formula factors in CRRSAA section 314(a)(1)(A)-(D); and 100 percent of the amount received under the formula factors in CRRSAA section 314(a)(1)(E)-(F). Student award amounts for both the CRRSAA and ARP (a)(1) programs are identified for each institution in their respective allocation table.
  • The college has received $4,405,092 to award in Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under ARP Section 2003(a)(1). 100% of this funding will be disbursed to eligible students.
  • As of 03/10/22, $4,406,153.92 was disbursed to students.
  • SOWELA’s Summer 2021, Fall 2021, and Spring 2022 semester enrollment was 4413 unduplicated and all students were potentially eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants under ARP section 2003 (a)(1) and the Student Eligibility Requirements. Students with exceptional financial need were disbursed funds. This included those who received a Federal Pell Grant and those who made application and documented an exceptional financial need.
  • 1521 students from the Summer 2021 and Fall 2021 semesters each received $1400 in ARP Emergency Financial Aid Grants. 1300 students from the Spring 2022 semester received $1750 and 1 student received a different amount of $353.92, in order to exhaust the allocation. The total unduplicated number of students who received funds during the 2021-2022 year was 1931. The award amounts were determined based on the college’s allocation of ARP funds and a projected number of students with exceptional financial need.
