Commissioner of Higher Education to Hold Stakeholder Engagement Luncheon at SOWELA

LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA – September 24, 2018

Louisiana Commissioner of Higher Education Dr. Kim Hunter Reed will hold a Stakeholder Engagement Luncheon at SOWELA Technical Community College’s Regional Training Center on Monday, October 1, 2018, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. The event is invitation-only.

In addition, Dr. Hunter Reed will tour SOWELA’s Main Campus in Lake Charles, LA.

The event is part of a statewide Commissioner’s Tour with the Louisiana Board of Regents.

About Dr. Kim Hunter Reed
A Lake Charles native, Kim Hunter Reed, Ph.D., was selected as the ninth Commissioner of Higher Education by the Louisiana Board of Regents in April 2018. Prior to being named Commissioner, Reed served as executive director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education. She also served in President Barack Obama’s administration as deputy undersecretary at the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Hunter Reed led the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

SOWELA Technical Community College provides traditional, distance, and lifelong learning experiences and awards associate degrees, technical diplomas, and certificates. The College empowers learners in career and technical education and enables transfer students to pursue a four-year degree so all learners excel as globally competitive citizens. The College has been educating the region’s workforce for 80 years and has locations in Jennings, Lake Charles, and Oakdale, LA.
