Aviation Maintenance Technology
As an international student, Olivier Meilland-Rey attended SOWELA's Aviation Maintenance Technology program, graduating in 2001. This program laid the groundwork for earning his airframe and powerplant technician license later that year.
“SOWELA is the best school to learn aviation, and Lake Charles, Louisiana, will always have a special place in my heart,” said Meilland-Rey.
He attributes the practical, hands-on work of the program as what sets it apart from all others.
“I worked on aircraft engines and repaired aircraft wings with sheet metal and troubleshooting repairs,” said Meilland-Rey. “Learning how flight control operates on planes was something I had never done in France. SOWELA's program was much more practical and helped me learn more.”
Today, he is an engineering technician in an aircraft maintenance program in France, proving that a community college education can take you anywhere!
