Nursing Fundamentals

The Nursing Fundamentals exam is an assessment of basic comprehension and a mastery of the fundamental principle for nursing practices. Before registering to take this exam, it is recommended to have a current Louisiana license to practice as a License Practical Nurse.

Exam Registration

The Nursing Fundamentals exam is only available to SOWELA students at this time. All individuals testing need to have an ATI account. Students must have taken and passed the TEAS Test for SOWELA before scheduling the exam.

Taking the Exam

  • Time limit is 70 minutes total
  • 70 multiple-choice questions

  • Basic nursing care
  • Support of psychosocial needs
  • Support of physiologic needs
  • Health assessment

Day of Test

Arrive 15 minutes early (those arriving late will not be allowed to test). Photo ID is required to enter the testing center. Scratch paper, pencil, and ear plugs will be provided.

No personal items will be allowed into the testing room, including but not limited to purses, backpacks, notes, papers, hats, sunglasses, watches, bulky jackets, electronic devices, etc. Lockers are provided.
