Tuition Adjustments

SOWELA provides full refunds of tuition and fees to students who resign from all classes or alter scheduled hours before the first day of the semester. Students who resign from all classes or reduce scheduled hours during the official add/drop period receive a refund based on the drop date and the number of reduced hours. The tuition adjustment period indicated on the academic calendar and described below provides tuition and fee refund rates according to the date the student dropped the course(s).

Students must complete the drop process before the end of the tuition adjustment period to qualify for a reduction in amounts owed. Non-attendance does not constitute withdrawal. Students who schedule additional hours during the add/drop period must pay the additional per credit hour tuition and fees at the time of the schedule adjustment.

Any credit balance resulting from the tuition adjustment will be refunded electronically through a refund management service. Any financial aid payment received after a reduction of fees will be applied to the adjusted account balance. Students are liable for paying any fees not paid by financial aid.

SOWELA schedules the tuition adjustment period for each term according to the following criteria:

  • A 100% adjustment of tuition and fees will be made to students who resign from all classes or drop a course(s) during the first three instructional days (add/drop period) of the fall and spring semesters and the first two instructional days for the summer semester and mini-semesters.
  • A 75% adjustment of tuition and any excess credit hour fees will be made to students who resign from all classes or drop a course(s) after the third instructional day through the sixth instructional day of the fall and spring semesters and on the third instructional day for the summer semester and mini-semesters.
  • A 50% adjustment of tuition and any excess credit hour fees will be made to students who resign from all classes or drop a course(s) after the sixth instructional day through the ninth instructional day of the semester for the fall and spring semesters and on the fourth instructional day through the fifth instructional day of the summer semester and mini-semesters.
  • A 25% adjustment of tuition and any excess credit hour fees will be made to students who resign from all classes or drop a course(s) after the ninth instructional day through the thirteenth instructional day of the semester for the fall and spring semesters and on the sixth instructional day of the summer semester and mini-semesters.
  • A 100% adjustment of all tuition and fees in the event SOWELA cancels a course.
  • The excess credit hour fee will be refunded the same as tuition during the tuition adjustment periods.
  • Other registration fees such as the Operational Fee, Student Services Fee, Academic Excellence Fee, Enterprise Resource Fee, Building Use Fee, Technology Fee, Student Activity Fee, SGA Fee, Parking Fee, Lab Fees, and other miscellaneous fees are not refundable during the tuition adjustment period.
  • No tuition adjustments shall be made after the thirteenth instructional day for the fall and spring semesters or after the sixth instructional day for the summer semester and mini-semesters.
  • No refund shall be made for a non-credit course unless the class is cancelled.
  • No refund shall be made for testing fees or application charges.
