SOWELA COVID-19 Policies and Guidelines (August 9, 2021)
SOWELA will adhere to the orders, proclamations, and regulations of the Governor of Louisiana as well as guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) regarding COVID-19.
Therefore, to assist in decreasing the spread of the COVID-19 virus, it is the College’s policy that all students, faculty, and staff (even those who are fully vaccinated) are required to wear masks or face coverings which completely cover the nose and mouth areas while inside any building including, but not limited to, classrooms, labs, offices, hallways, and stairways.
In addition, SOWELA continues to promote social distancing of 3 feet and the practice of frequent handwashing.
If you have COVID-19 symptoms and/or test positive or have been in close contact with an individual known or suspected to be infected, please report the information by using this form (opens new window).
Dear SOWELA Employee,
To ensure the safety of all of our students, faculty, and staff as we enter the new year, we will institute a two-week period of virtual learning for all campuses at the start of our Spring 2021 semester. Many of us have had the potential to be in groups over the holiday that might have increased our exposure to COVID-19. This waiting period of on-campus instruction will help us decrease our risk of exposing others.
Classes will begin on January 19 as scheduled; however, on-campus instruction for Spring 2021 will not start until February 1.
We will notify all students and share the details needed for this transition on or before January 14.
We ask that you contact your supervisor to discuss your schedule before returning to campus. Additional communication regarding our return plan will be provided by email soon. When you do return to work, please plan to do so with COVID-19 protocol in place.
For COVID protocol instructions, see our Reopening Plan for Spring 2021 (PDF).
