Textbook Vouchers and Lending Program

Electronic Book Voucher Option for Financial Aid Students

SOWELA now has an easier process to allow financial aid recipients to purchase books prior to the receipt of Pell funds. This new process makes it more convenient for students to obtain the books they need for class. After registration, go to your LoLA Financial Aid tab to confirm your financial aid eligibility. You will receive an email Message from our office once your file has been awarded.

If you were awarded financial aid, and your aid award exceeds the cost of tuition and fees, you may use this amount to purchase books online. The amount available to purchase books is the difference between the financial aid awarded and the total amount due for tuition and fees for the term. You may use this amount as an electronic book voucher for your books online or during our onsite SOWELA bookstore dates.

The electronic book voucher (the amount available to purchase books after tuition and fees) will be available approximately two weeks before the semester begins and will expire 10 days into the semester. All start and end dates will be posted each semester along with the dates the SOWELA bookstore will be onsite.

The total amount purchased at the SOWELA bookstore will be charged directly to your student account and will be deducted from your financial aid award. If a student becomes ineligible for financial aid or financial aid is reduced, the student will be responsible for re-payment of any book voucher charges.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Student must be registered in the semester in which the book voucher is requested.
  • Student must have completed all required documents requested by the Financial Aid Office 10 days prior to the start of classes.
  • Student must be meeting satisfactory academic progress standards.
  • Student must have no outstanding prior balance.
  • Student must have financial aid that exceeds their institutional charges.

***Please note any student may opt out of using this voucher, no notification is necessary. Your student account will not be charged any book related fees should you decide not to use the voucher.

Textbook Lending Program

The Textbook Lending Program is a program designed through the Office of Student Support Services to assist students who are unable to purchase textbooks to begin their courses. With the assistance of Carl Perkins funds and a private grant, students can request assistance with borrowing at least one textbook from SOWELA's Library Services.

The deadline for applying for the program is always a week and a half prior to the start of the semester. Students are notified between that time period of their eligibility to participate in the program. Textbooks are loaned on a first come, first serve basis. Students may be assisted after the deadline if the textbook(s) they require are still available. Students that apply are NOT GUARANTEED textbook assistance through the programs but are encouraged to apply.
