Required skills:  A master’s degree plus a minimum of five years of experience as an administrator in a technical college or technical community college.  Must have the ability to utilize computer technology to access data, maintain records, generate reports and communicate with others (requires strong oral and written communication skills).

Vice Chancellor for Academic

SOWELA Technical Community College announces the creation of the new position of Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs and invites applicants for this exciting opportunity.  Reporting directly to the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs (VCASA) will serve as the College’s chief academic and student affairs officer.  The VCASA will provide direct oversight to the Dean of Instruction and the Dean of Student Affairs.  The VCASA will also provide leadership and vision for strategic planning within the academic and student affairs units. 

The successful candidate will be a proven academic leader with a record of significant accomplishment in college-level teaching, academic administration, and scholarship and professional activity.  In addition, the qualified candidate should have the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse constituency of students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders articulating SOWELA’s mission and unique position in the higher education community. 

Qualifications:  The new VCASA must possess an earned doctorate or appropriate terminal degree; have a minimum of five years of successful full-time collegiate teaching experience; possess a minimum of seven years of demonstrated accomplishments as an academic leader preferably in a community college setting; possess experience with strategic planning, curriculum development, outcomes assessment and accreditation processes.  The VCASA must also possess superior analytical skills and excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as promote a consultative leadership style and foster collaborative relationships with others.

SOWELA Technical Community College seeks a technology savvy, service-oriented Technical Services Librarian for a full-time, 12 month, administrative faculty position.

Duties: Administer integrated library management system, provide technical training and support for library staff, perform original and copy cataloging, prepare statistical reports, maintain library webpage, and liaison with Department of Information Research and Technology.

Requirement: ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent degree in library and information science; a minimum of two years of cataloging experience in an academic library environment and experience using integrated library management software preferably SIRSI/Dynix Unicorn. Knowledge of cataloging standards, MARC format, AACR2, Library of Congress Subject Headings and LC classification.

These individuals will recruit and counsel prospective students. This is a full time administrative/ professional position, reporting to the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. This position markets Sowela Technical Community College to prospective students thru one on one admissions counseling, recruitment events, email, and phone calls. This position requires an individual with a thorough knowledge of academic programs, policy, and procedures and close collaboration with both on and off campus constituents.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited higher education institution with at least two years of work experience in higher education. Experience in Student Services preferred. Additional requirements: This position requires superior communication skills, customer service skills, a strong public persona, the ability to handle a fast-paced, high volume environment, and a great deal of flexibility. The Enrollment Specialist must be a team player and possess a high energy level and positive attitude. Excellent computer skills with a proficiency in Microsoft Office are a must. Assistant Director of Admissions

SOWELA invites applications from enthusiastic, self-motivated professionals to apply for Assistant Director of Admissions.  This is a full-time, permanent, administrative/professional position, reporting to the Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. This position will manage the daily operations for the admissions office.  This includes developing admissions and recruitment strategies to achieve enrollment goals, placement testing, orientation, counseling, advising and recruiting.

Director of Nursing Skills Enhancement Lab

The Director of the Nursing Skills Enhancement Lab will manage all activities and functions of the lab.  This individual will develop and implement course and individual learning enhancement plans and be responsible for the remediation and learning enhancement of all nursing students.  They must have a flexible schedule in order to rotate availability for student learning needs during day, evening, and weekend hours. 

Candidates must possess an active state Registered Nurse License; current Red Cross Certification in CPR for the Professional Rescuer, or the equivalent; a Master’s Degree in Nursing with two to five years experience in Nursing Education, curriculum development and recent physical assessment skills; good communication skills; excellent computer skills; the Ability to work independently; the ability to establish and maintain an effective relationship with the students and peers; and the ability to interact effectively and build relationships within the community.

Full Time Instructor Positions

Accounting - Nine-month full-time position with possibility of summer employment to teach accounting principles, payroll, and computerized accounting using QuickBooks and Peachtree. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required. Master's degree in accounting or related field preferred. Flexible schedule and teaching experience a plus. Also seeking applicants for part-time employment

Aviation Maintenance - Twelve-month full-time position. Applicant must have FAA A&P certificate with a minimum of five years of documented work experience as A&P. Associate degree in a related field a plus. Post-secondary teaching experience, IA and Pilot certificates preferred.

Drafting and Design Technology - Nine-month position available with possibility of summer employment.  Minimal requirements:  Associate Degree in Drafting and five years of experience (10 years preferred).  Must have experience with AutoCAD and manual drafting tools.  Working knowledge of Word and Excel a plus.

English - Nine-month position with possibility of summer employment.   Applicant must have doctor’s or master’s degree in English or master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in English.   Applicants with education degrees may be considered depending upon courses completed, certifications, and teaching experience.   The ability to assist students with college-readiness skills and post-secondary teaching experiences are desirable.

Industrial Instrumentation – Nine-month position with possibility of summer employment.  Minimum requirements include an associate degree in Industrial Instrumentation (Bachelor’s degree a plus), three years full-time work experience in Industrial Instrumentation, and demonstrated successful teaching experience.

Mathematics - Nine-month position with possibility of summer employment.   Applicant must have doctor’s or master’s degree in mathematics or master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in mathematics.  Successful experiences in post-secondary teaching and distance leaning are desirable.  Part-time positions also available.

Physics - Nine-month position with possibility of summer employment.   Applicant must have doctor’s or master’s degree in Physics or master’s degree with minimum of 18 graduate hours in Physics.  Successful experiences in post-secondary teaching and distance learning are desirable.

Practical Nursing - Twelve-month RN positions.  Applicants must be RN with current Med/Surgical nursing experience. BSN or diploma RNs must have a minimum of 3 years Med/ Surgical nursing education. ADN RNs must have a minimum of 5 years Med/Surgical nursing with 1 year immediately prior to hire. Master’s degree preferred.

Reading - Nine-month position with possibility of summer employment.   Applicant must have master’s degree in Reading or Literacy or master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in Reading/Literacy.   Applicants with education degrees may be considered depending upon courses completed, certifications, and teaching experience.   The ability to assist students with college-readiness skills and post-secondary teaching experiences are desirable.

Part-time Instructor Positions

Electronics – Part-time positions to teach DA/AC theory, semiconductor theory, digital and transistor theory.  Minimal requirements include a two-year degree in electronics or associate field and two years of successful work experience.
