This is a full-time, 12-month accountant position, with state benefits. The position reports directly to the Controller, and will perform accounting duties for both the College and the College Foundation. A summary of the position’s responsibilities will include, among other duties, reviewing all travel documents for proper documentation and compliance with all policies and regulations; preparing and documenting bank and general ledger account reconciliations; preparing and documenting journal entries; preparing, reviewing, and analyzing accounting detail and schedules needed for the College’s Annual Financial Report; preparing and delivering training to all campus departments and/or units on compliance matters, and in the use of the Banner Finance System; and various other duties as assigned by the Controller and/or the Vice Chancellor for Finance.

Education and Work Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or equivalent, and three years of progressively responsible experience in an accounting or auditing position are required. Certified Public Accountant and/or a Master’s Degree are preferred. Other preferred qualifications include: knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), practices and standards; governmental and non-profit accounting methods and financial practices; budget, procurement, and auditing practices and procedures; and SunGard Banner ERP software.

Facilities Coordinator (Click Here for More Info)
Sowela is accepting applications for a Facilities Coordinator at our main campus Lake Charles location. This position will report directly to the Director of Facilities Planning & Management. Duties will include identifying problems with facilities in terms of functioning and appearance, analyzing potential solutions, planning strategies, and implementing repairs and improvements, recognizing and reporting all long-term and short-term maintenance and repair tasks necessary to keep all campus physical plant assets in good working order, to promote longevity and efficiency.

MINIMUM QUALIFICAITONS:
· Baccalaureate Degree plus one or more years of industry based experience in the building construction trades, general building maintenance, or in the repair or maintenance of mechanical equipment.
· Proven leadership, communication, team building and problem solving skills.
· Must have worked in an maintenance industry based environment
· Must have some HVAC, electrical, and trade background
· Demonstrate better than average computer skills and is proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, some Power Point, and has the ability to train on Banner system

Aviation Maintenance Technology Instructor  (Click Here for More Info)

Sowela Technical Community College (Sowela) in Lake Charles, Louisiana is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Part 147 school for teaching aviation maintenance technology that was established in 1968. The Sowela Workforce Development Unit has a special international project beginning January 2012 with a position for an aviation maintenance technology instructor.

Sowela is seeking applications for aviation maintenance technology instructor candidates with the following minimum qualifications:

A minimum of an associate degree in aviation maintenance technology or related field;
Current FAA Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) certification;
Minimum of four (4) years work experience in aviation maintenance field;
Minimum of three (3) years successful classroom teaching experience;
Demonstrate strong classroom and learning laboratory management skills;
Have curriculum development experience;
Implement the initial tool and equipment control, maintenance, and usage policies and procedures for an aviation maintenance training facility;
Possess a current valid passport;
Possess the ability to pass a background screening;
Be willing and able to work alternative shifts of six (6) weeks living abroad in a remote location and return home for six (6) weeks;
Be able to travel internationally long distances by air;
Must demonstrate excellent written and oral skills, self-motivation, diplomacy, tact, and consensus leadership skills; and
Utilize Microsoft Office software package for communications, presentations, budgeting, and planning.

Sowela’s Office of Planning and Analysis for Institutional Effectiveness (OPAIE) has an outstanding opportunity for an Educational Research and Data Programmer/Analyst. The Office is a team-oriented office that requires team players who can work collaboratively in a project environment. We are searching for an individual with quantitative analysis, enrollment management, survey research, human resources information systems experience, or similar experience. The individual will create customized, timely reports informed by reliable and valid educational, human resources, and survey data, descriptive statistics, and data modeling; collaborate in the definition of college data and its integration into decision support data resources, by extracting data from the college enterprise data store/warehouse and data systems to assist in coordinating and conducting institutional research, assessment and survey research, and human resources activities that provide analysis of data and information to inform, support and enhance decision-making, strategic planning, outcomes assessment, institutional accreditation, operational planning, policy formation, and internal and external reporting functions of the office for the college.

QUALIFICATION
REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in any of the following areas: Social Science, Higher Education, Social or Educational Research, Computer Information Systems, Statistics, or a related field AND two (2) years of related or progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in analysis, such as data analysis, planning, policy analysis, statistical analysis or data management, to include experience in extracting data using SQL, database reporting solutions and defining users report requirements; or equivalent combination of education and experience, such as: Associate degree; supplemented with four to six (4-6) years or equivalent experience; and with at least two (2) years in a similar position in a higher education institution.
DESIRED:
Master's degree in Social or Educational Research, Statistics, Higher Education Administration, or relevant field.
Knowledge of Sowela data systems; proficiency with statistical analysis software such as SPSS or SAS; familiarity with SQL server database programming; experience developing reports in Cognos BI Reporting Services; proficiency displaying data in a graphical format via web applications such as Tableau; prior experience in a similar office in higher education is preferred; experience in a decision support and/or data mining environment is a plus.

Full- time position at Sowela Technical Community College.
