What are the Library's Hours?
During the academic year, the hours are as follows:
Monday - Friday
7:00 A.M. – 4:30 P.M.
Closed Saturday – Sunday

How do I get a library card?
Your current SOWELA photo ID card with a barcode is used as a library card. Photo IDs are acquired through the Office of Student Services.
Can I access the library's catalog and databases from off-campus?
Yes, services may be accessed from home or other remote locations. Several electronic databases use a logon ID and password. Library staff will provide you with this information.
Does the library offer Internet access?
Yes, Internet access is available to SOWELA students, faculty and staff. Students must sign an "Acceptable Use Agreement" form at the Office of Student Services. For specifics regarding use in the library see Library Internet Usage Policy.
How many items may I borrow at one time?
Students may check out 5 items at one time and Faculty/Staff may borrow 10 items.
How long may I keep a book or video?

Are fines charged when materials are returned after the due date?
Yes, fines are charged when an item is overdue. Fines are accrued at $.25 per day per item. See Circulation Policy for complete details.
If I want to keep a book beyond the due date may I renew it?
Students may renew materials one time. You may call the library, come in person to the Circulation Desk or renew materials online. To renew online go to the SOWELA iLink Library Catalog and click on "My Account" and then "Renew my Materials." The loan period can not be extended if there is a HOLD on the item. Have your Student ID handy when renewing materials.
If SOWELA does not have a book that I need, may I request it from another library?
Interlibrary Loan Services are not currently available at SOWELA. You may wish to obtain a Public Library Card, Friends of McNeese Library Card, and/or a LALINC Card which is available at the Circulation Desk.
Where do I get materials my instructor placed on Reserve?
Reserve materials are kept behind the Circulation Desk. Items check out for a limited time, and are usually for in-library use only. You must have your current student ID to check them out.
Can I do word processing in the library?
Yes, word processing is available in the library through Microsoft Office Suite. Library staff will provide software assistance. Printing is currently free, but frugality is encouraged.
Can I access full-text journal articles?
Yes, many of the library's online databases contain some full-text articles. When doing a search you may select the full-text only option.
Can I check out magazines and newspapers?
No, periodicals always remain in the library for all to share.
Is there a photocopier in the library?
Not yet, a student photocopier is available in the Administration Building. Copy cards are purchased in the Business Office.
Can I use my cell phone in the library?
Cell phone use is prohibited in the library. Those who fail to comply with this policy will be asked to leave the library.
Can I eat my lunch in the library?
No food or drink is allowed in the library.
