Registration Steps for LCTCSOnline Courses at SOWELA

STEP ONE - REGISTER AT LCTCSONLINE

BEFORE you register for classes with your Sowela advisor during registration, you must visit the LCTCSOnline site, create an account, and select the courses you would like to take. These courses never fill up or close, so if you want to take a particular class that is listed, you will be able to do so.

However, if you change your mind and decide not to take a course you selected, you may make that change … as long as you have not yet paid your tuition and fees to Sowela for the courses. Once you pay your tuition/fees, you must go through regular drop procedures. Depending upon the drop date, you may or may not receive any money back for the dropped course(s). Check with the Business Office for details.

SPECIAL INFORMATION REGARDING THE APPLICATION:

  • You must complete this step in order to access the dashboard of your LCTCSOnline class.
  • You must complete all required fields. Required fields are marked by asterisks.
  • By completing the application, you will also create your LCTCSOnline account as well as your username and password.
  • Your username must be at least six (6) characters. Your password must be at least six (6) characters with one letter and one number.
  • When completing the Academic Information Section of the application, select Sowela as your home institution.
  • If you were previously enrolled at Sowela, you should select that you are a Returning Student (of selected home college)” when answering the “Seeking Enrollment As” question. As a “returning student”, it is not necessary to resubmit your transcript(s).
  • If you are a new student at Sowela, you should select that you are a “New Student” for the “Seeking Enrollment As” question. You must submit all required documentation to the Admissions Office at Sowela to complete the admissions process before enrolling in a course at Sowela (including LCTCSOnline courses).

STEP TWO – SELECT YOUR LCTCSOnline COURSES

After you have created your account, you will need to select courses you want to take through LCTCSOnline.

The status of the LCTCSOnline courses you selected will say “Pending” until the Sowela registrar checks to make sure you have turned in all necessary admissions documents and have met any prerequisites necessary for the course(s) you have selected. Once those assurances have been made, the course status will change to “Active.” It may take a while for the status to change, but it should change by the start of the semester. If it doesn’t, check with the registrar’s office.

STEP THREE – PRINT OUT A COPY OF THE PAGE SHOWING YOUR SELECTED COURSE(S)

Print out a copy of your dashboard and take it with you to see your advisor on registration day.

STEP 4 – MEET WITH YOUR SOWELA ADVISOR DURING REGISTRATION

During registration, give your advisor the printout of your requested courses. Your advisor with then add those courses to your schedule in the Sowela system. That way you will be able to pay your tuition/fees or apply your financial aid to pay for ALL of your courses (Sowela AND LCTCSOnline) at the same time.

Remember, you MUST create your LCTCSOnline account and select your LCTCSOnline courses BEFORE you register with your Sowela advisor!

SPECIAL NOTES ABOUT LCTCSOnline COURSES:

  • The web classes offered through LCTCSOnline are NOT located on the Sowela joule site.
  • Do NOT purchase books until you have clicked on the “eBookstore” link on the side of your dashboard in the LCTCSOnline site. That site will tell you which books and editions are needed for your LCTCSOnline course(s). Some courses require the purchase of an e-book, rather than a traditional book. Unless you want to, you do not have to purchase the books through their site, but you do need to check to find the ISBN of the correct book(s).
  • If you decide to drop an LCTCSOnline class during the semester, you must initiate that drop yourself by clicking on the “Drop a Course” link on the side of the page of your LCTCSOnline dashboard. This should be done BEFORE the last the date to drop a course for the semester. If a course is dropped after that date—or not dropped at all—you may receive a failing grade for the course, depending on what work was submitted prior to the time you stopped participating in the class.
